An Emotional Win for Hamlin in Vegas

March 16, 2026 | Edition #649 |
Hey, NASCAR Fans!
Denny Hamlin has made his way into the Top 10 winningest drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series. The oldest race car driver in the Cup garage has found a gear or two in what is supposed to be the start of a decline. Yet, in Las Vegas, he was undeterred and once again managed to park his No. 11 JGR Camry in Victory Lane.
Sunday’s race wasn’t a wreck fest or something out of the box, but there were moments that shaped the outcome of the race. So let us break down the Pennzoil 400.

Stage 1: The JGR Toyotas led the charge in the first stage, and after the pit cycle, Christopher Bell managed to grab all the stage points.
Stage 2: The HMS Chevys fought back in the second stage and allowed William Byron to win the stage.
Stage 3: A cat-and-mouse chase between Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin set up the finale, but the veteran JGR driver kept his cool to clinch the first win of the season.
Hamlin became only the 5th driver to win in 20 different NASCAR seasons after his triumph on Sunday, but this win didn’t come easy. After a solid qualifying run and Stage 1 effort, the No. 11 team hit a major bump in their very first pit cycle. Hamlin was caught speeding on pit road and had to restart the race on the tail end.
From running up front to finding himself in a hornet’s nest. While Christopher Bell was dueling with the likes of William Byron and Kyle Larson, Hamlin made his move to rise back up front. And by the end of Stage 2, he was back in the mix among the leading pack.
Byron got past Hamlin with 57 laps to go, but a spin by Connor Zilisch brought out the caution. This allowed the teams to get some new tires and adjustments for the final run. With 50 to go, Hamlin just got by his teammate Bell for the lead and had the clean air. However, he wasn’t out in the clear.
Chase Elliott’s car had the best speed in the final stage run, and with laps winding down, he was gaining on Hamlin. One mistake by the JGR driver and Elliott would make his move. Unfortunately for Elliott, Hamlin just hit his mark to bag his 61st career win, and what followed next was the most wholesome moment of this weekend.
The entire Hamlin family came out on the start-finish line. Hamlin hugged his two daughters and embraced his mom. Catch a glimpse of the incredible emotional moment of the Hamlin family.
Hamlin tried his best to hold back the tears while speaking about his father, but the weight of the moment and memories got the better of him.
“This is a family sport. My family obviously had so much sacrifice to help me get here. Now that I’ve grown, generations of Hamlins are following me. It’s great Mom gets to see this. I know Dad’s still saying, ‘That’s my boy.’”
Given how much Denny Hamlin endured last year, both personally and professionally, this win in Vegas felt like a healing moment.

Gray Hair? This Is How You Reduce It Naturally
Dye fixes gray hair… by giving you a new problem: looking dyed. Particle Anti-Gray Serum is the all-natural, non-dye, no-mess solution for men who want their real color back, not a recreation of it.
The 5-second daily spray works gradually at the root to restore pigment for natural, visible results on your hair and beard.
Unlike hair dyes that aggressively color your hair and require annoying upkeep, Particle Anti-Gray Serum is clean and extremely easy to use. It stimulates the melanin inside the hair and does not use artificial color.

The race in Vegas was pretty straightforward without any drama or massive crashes. But just as Hamlin was enjoying his celebrations, the broadcast cameras caught something juicy from pit road.
Former teammates Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez were animated and having a heated argument on pit road. Chastain even pushed Suarez before their team members and officials separated the two.
The only instance that might have sparked this argument was a simple bump between the two with 2 laps to go. It wasn’t even a blatant attempt to cut the lane. Just two drivers racing hard on the track. Check the video for yourself.
Just when it looked like things had settled between the two, they were seen bumping each other on the cool-down lap. And then they headed to pit road. Suarez got out of his car, looked reasonably calm, and proceeded to have a chat with his ex-teammate.
At first, they only exchanged words, and suddenly they began shoving and pushing each other. Chastain seemed furious, while Suarez had a smirk on his face. Here’s the video of the intense pit-road conversation between the two.
Chastain remained tight-lipped about the incident, but Suarez shared his take with the reporters.
“He just said something. I mean, for some reason, our relationship has always been very weird. Almost like a little bit of two-faced on his part for some reason. And today I saw actually what I thought he had in his mind for a while.”
Right now, it is tough to guess whether or not things will escalate from here on. But if it does, we know where it all began.

A return to Vegas is always exciting, but this time around it was just pure racing, not the drama. But this doesn’t mean our weekly prediction challenge was the same.
For a second week in a row, we had to rely on the tiebreaker to crown the winner of this week’s challenge.

How Many More Wins Will Hamlin Collect Before His Retirement? |

Chase Elliott has everything but a win this season. 5th in the overall standings, the HMS driver is growing out to become a title contender. However, coming so close to a win and then seeing it slip out of his hand left Elliott with mixed feelings in Vegas.
“Obviously bummed to come up that short. Wish I could have pieced together a couple of better laps there towards the end. Trying to be as tidy as I could be. He did a really good job. Congrats to him for holding his ground there and putting together a good five or six, because it looked like a handful. Yeah, I don’t know. Just kind of mixed feelings,” Elliott said after the race.
Another HMS driver who was in contention for the win was William Byron. The third-place finish was his first top-5 result in 2026, and had it not been for that late-race caution, who knows, he could’ve been the one celebrating in Victory Lane.
“I hate that because I feel like it hurt my tires, heated them up. It was hard to make ground up after that. This is a good run for us. The Chevrolet team was really good today. I just feel like this is more what we’re accustomed to,” Byron said.
This weekend was yet another solid performance for the No. 20 JGR team and Christopher Bell. Speed on the No. 20 Toyota was solid, but Bell wasn’t able to sustain the performance and adjust to the different pace of the race.
“I didn’t feel like I drove a very good race. At times, I felt like I had plenty of speed, and a great long-run car in the first stage–we drove to the lead, and then I never executed the restarts very well. So, great finish, great day for JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing). Still looking for that first win though,” Bell added.
