After a streak of runner-up finishes in the championship hunt, Jimmie Johnson kick-started his title run in 2006 with a memorable win at Daytona International Speedway. Driving the No. 48 HMS Chevy, Johnson held off Ryan Newman and Brian Vickers despite a late caution. He did so without his crew chief, Chad Knaus, who was suspended for illegal car modifications.
