Is Kyle Larson Moving to F1?

Dec 19, 2024 | Edition #112

šŸ‘‹ Dear Motorheads,

Kyle 'Yung Money' Larson. The guy's arguably a superhero of the racing world - and it's easy to see why. He can dominate in anything with wheels: midget cars, sprint cars, and probably even your grandma's scooter.
But what if we tell you Larson may soon take his talents beyond the US? And nope, we're not talking about the High Limits' global takeover...

Kyle Larsonā€™s Reach Is Getting Absurd

Kyle Larson's been crushing it in the racing world since... forever. He joined Chip Ganassi Racing and immediately started turning heads. But things really went into overdrive when he teamed up with Rick Hendrick, winning 10 races and the championship in his first year at HMS.

That's when we knew Larson was the real deal, and his skills went way beyond NASCAR. Who can forget his epic 2015 24 Hours of Daytona win or his insane IndyCar debut?

Looking at that, it's no surprise people are wondering what Larson would be like in Formula One. And with GM's Cadillac and Mario Andretti getting involved in F1, it's possible Larson might get an offer. Andretti's a huge fan of Larson, and it's easy to see why. But could Larson follow in Andretti's footsteps and become the next F1 champ? Not everyone's convinced.

Veteran NASCAR commentator Dave Moody thinks it'd be a "su*cidal" move for both Larson's career and the team that picks him up.

He's got a point - open-wheel racing and stock car racing are like apples and oranges. As he puts it, "Nobody's going to pull Kyle Larson or anybody else out of NASCARā€¦ and say, 'Come on, kid. We're going to Europe and putting you in an F1 car.'"

Larson, on the other hand, is super confident in his abilities. He's even compared himself to 2024 and four-time F1 champ Max Verstappen. While it was a bold move, the Lucky Dog would like you to decide. Is the fan favorite Larson better than the current F1 Champion? Here is a video to give an interesting view of the topic.

Still, it's hard to deny that F1 drivers start young and work their way up the ranks. Only a select few make it to the top, like Verstappen.

So, while the idea of Larson in F1 is exciting, it's still a big "what if." But hey, if it does happen, Larson could definitely shake things up in the F1 world.

Big Relief for Michael Jordan and Co

Big news, folks! 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports just scored a win against NASCAR. But before you get too hyped, this doesn't mean NASCAR's been found guilty of monopolistic behavior... yet. The court did approve the teams' request for a preliminary injunction, and naturally, Denny Hamlin's stoked, which was evident from his latest post on X.

For a quick refresher: 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports filed an antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR back on October 3. They had a bunch of complaints, like not being able to compete in other stock car events outside of NASCAR, and only being able to buy parts from NASCAR-approved vendors. But the main thing they wanted was to be able to race as charter teams while they fought the case against NASCAR.

Initially, the court rejected their request, saying teams couldn't prove "irreparable harm." This also put the brakes on their plans to expand to three-car teams by buying charters from Stewart-Haas Racing. NASCAR had to approve the charter transfers, but they were holding them hostage, hoping 23XI and FRM would drop their case.

Fast forward to now: The court ruled in favor of the teams, stopping NASCAR from blocking the charter purchases from SHR. This means 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports can move forward with their plans.

So, what's the plan for 2025? 23XI Racing's got Riley Herbst in their third car, and Front Row Motorsports is likely to have Zane Smith in theirs. SHR's officially out of the charter business, having sold all four of theirs. Trackhouse Racing grabbed one for Shane van Gisbergen, and Haas Factory Team's keeping one for Cole Custer. Now, NASCAR can still appeal this ruling, but for now, it's a win for the teams.

NASCAR Gets Its Oldest Rookie Driver

Here is an ultimate underdog story. Tim Brown, a 53-year-old racing veteran from North Carolina, is fixing to live his dream. "I've worked my whole life to try to be a Cup driver," Brown said, ahead of his NASCAR debut at the historic Bowman Gray Stadium for The Clash.

Brown's about to make history as the oldest Cup rookie ever, but he's no newbie to Bowman Gray. This guy's a 12-time Tour Type Modified champion at the track, with a whopping 101 wins. And let's not forget, he's been building Cup cars since high school and has spent years working behind the scenes. But would it all be enough to take on the NASCAR big guns and have a real chance to come out on top? Read the Full Story!

HMS Faces Weird Sponsor Conundrum

You don't often see NASCAR fans cheering about a sponsor cutting ties with a driver. Weā€™re still sad about Denny Hamlin breaking up with long-time sponsor FedEx. But when it comes to William Byron and Liberty University, things are a bit different.

Liberty's been sponsoring Byron's #24 car for years, but in 2025, they're only backing him for six races - down from 12 in 2024. And surprisingly, some fans are saying, "Good riddance."

Why the backlash, you may ask? Well, Liberty University's got a pretty checkered past. Back in 2021, they were sued for certain manipulations in school policies. And that is not it. Even the US Department of Education has also slapped Liberty with a heavy $14 million fine.

Looking at this, NASCAR fans are wondering why Hendrick Motorsports is still working with Liberty. Naturally, they don't think a powerhouse like Hendrick should be linked to Liberty's tarnished reputation.

When Hendrick Motorsports signed a five-year contract with Liberty in 2021, the plan was for them to sponsor Byron's car for 12 races a season through 2026. But now, that number's dropping to just six.

Could this be Rick Hendrickā€™s way of softening his stance on Liberty, especially after all the drama that came to light in 2021? His latest viewpoint was, however, something quite opposite: "Things like that, I mean, it's not pleasant, but they're dealing with it. They're being very upfront, very transparent."

With Hendrick Motorsports being a financial powerhouse in NASCAR, should they sever ties with Liberty University immediately?

Whatā€™s Daniel Suarez Up to This Off-season?

How many of you have been to Tokyo? If not, youā€™re going to want to add it to your bucket list after seeing Daniel SuĆ”rezā€™s latest adventure.

Yes, NASCARā€™s Mexican superstar is living his best life, and trust us, heā€™s making all of us a little jealous right now.

Fresh off [5 months to be precise] his wedding, Daniel and his wife Julia kicked off their first trip as a married couple in serious style. First stop? Hiroshima. From wandering through stunning gardens to freaking out over a packet of Doritos (yep, Japanese snacks hit differently), they were soaking up every little moment.

And then, Kyoto happened. The beautiful couple strolled through the bamboo forest, the one youā€™ve probably seen a million times on Instagramā€”and it was total zen vibes. But letā€™s talk about Osaka because thatā€™s where things got fun.

If you know Daniel, you know heā€™s a huge Mario Kart fan, so of course, they hit up Nintendo World. Talk about living the dream, right?

Oh, and they didnā€™t stop there. Mount Fuji? Check. Universal Studios? Double check. Safe to say, their Japan trip was packed with all the postcard-worthy moments you could imagine.

But, like all good things, it had to come to an end. Danielā€™s back at the Trackhouse garage now, counting down the two months until the Cup Series is back in action. And honestly, even Lucky Dog thinks you all are just as hyped for the new season as he is.

So, hereā€™s the real questionā€”if you could visit one place Daniel and Julia hit up, where would you go? Or better yet, whereā€™s your next dream trip? Letā€™s hear it! āœˆļø
