Tyler Reddick Just Knows How to Win

Publication by EssentiallySports | April 20, 2026 | Edition #709 |
Hey NASCAR Fans,
Tyler Reddick has developed a strong reputation for late-race execution, often positioning himself for decisive moves in the closing laps. His ability to time passes under pressure has been a recurring theme, including standout moments in previous seasons such as Homestead in 2024.
That trait was once again on display during the AdventHealth 400, where he delivered in a tightly contested finish. This time, the result carried added significance as he outdueled Denny Hamlin in a direct battle for the win.
This breakdown looks at how the race unfolded and the key moments that shaped the outcome.

Tyler Reddick has started the 2026 season on a strong note, building on his performances with multiple wins in the opening races. After a quieter run last year, the No. 45 team has found consistency, combining pace, strategy, and execution to contend regularly. His latest win at Kansas Speedway reflected that progress, even though it came after a closely contested finish.
Denny Hamlin led late in the race, but an incident involving Cody Ware brought out a caution and set up an overtime restart. With teams opting for fresh tires, the final laps saw multiple lead changes, including a three-wide moment featuring Hamlin, Reddick, and Christopher Bell, while Kyle Larson briefly moved into the lead.
On the final run, Reddick worked his way alongside Larson through Turns 1 and 2 and maintained momentum on the outside line. As the field sorted itself out behind him, the No. 45 car carried the run to the line to secure the victory.
Reddick is the first driver since Dale Earnhardt in 1987, and fourth all-time, to win five of the first nine races of a season in NASCAR’s top division. Even Michael Jordan seemed to run out of words while describing the feeling of winning the 5th race with Reddick and the #45 team. Here’s the post-race celebration by the 23XI Racing camp.

Denny Hamlin and the No. 11 team showed strong pace at Kansas Speedway, leading a race-high 131 laps and controlling much of the race strategy. With a well-timed pit call from crew chief Chris Gayle, the team briefly gained track position late in the event and remained in contention for the win.
In the closing stages, Hamlin was able to move ahead of Tyler Reddick on fresher tires before the final restart reshuffled the field. The restart setup placed Hamlin on the inside line with Reddick, and Kyle Larson lined up on the outside, leading to a tightly contested finish.
Well, this theory was backed up by his crew chief, Chris Gayle. “When [Larson] lines up behind you, there’s some history of [him] not pushing because it’s a two-lap shootout and nobody is going to give pushes like they would have earlier in the race because they can split and go three-wide. Maybe you at least force somebody to push you if you take the top, I think is the issue there.”
However, Hamlin saw things a little differently, and according to him, the race should’ve been won before the late caution. Check out his post-race interview below.
